Yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of the publication of Catch-22.

It’s one of those novels where you remember exactly the time and place of the first reading. I was 19 years old and working as a camp counselor in New Mexico and I finished the final pages sitting on a bench alongside the Pecos River.
